Transportation of medications

There are a large number of medical goods.  Medical goods can be of several types: medicines, medical equipment and biological materials. If you are relocating medical clinic, you would have to deliver medical goods to another place. In this regard, it is necessary to comply with clear rules for the transport of medical goods. Transportation of medical goods is a complex process, which must be approached very responsibly.  Transportation of these goods must be carried out by carriers with extensive experience and a high degree of responsibility.  There are federal standards that specify the rules for the transportation and storage of medications of different effects, on the basis of which pharmaceuticals and biological material are transported throughout the country.

Medical cargoes differ in the nature of transportation: the ones which don’t require special conditions and ones which require special conditions for transportation and storage. Here, we reviewin details the features of transportation of the types of medical cargoes described above.

Medical cargoes that do not require special conditions for transportation include soft medical equipment (syringes, bandages, cotton wool, etc.) and some medications (tablets).  These medical goods can be transported by any means of transport without special packaging.  More often transportation of medical cargoes is carried out by car and railway kind of transport. Medical cargo is transported by air transporttothe most remote corners of a country.  Transportation of medicines is regulated by a wide range of international standards, which must be understood and observed.

Medical supplies that require special conditions for transportation include pharmaceutical preparations (preparations in glass bottles, candles, creams, etc.), various medical equipment, biological material.

Pharmaceutical preparations

Drugs are usually transported in special refrigerators or isothermal vans. Refrigerated vans are equipped with a special refrigeration unit in which a special temperature can be set.  To determine the correct temperature of the refrigeration unit, it is necessary to follow the recommendations for delivery and storage indicated on the outer packaging of preparations, as well as in the accompanying documentation.  In addition to adherence to the temperature regime, it is necessary to observe the full hermeticity of the package and the purity of the refrigerator van. It is necessary to do in order to preserve the physico-chemical properties and deterioration of preparations under the influence of extraneous smells.  Pharmaceutical drugs can differ not only in appearance, but also in composition.  Therefore, when transporting pharmaceuticals, certain features need to be considered.  For example, psychotropic and potent drugs should never be transported together with drugs that do not possess strong properties in the same van, as it is written in the rules for the transportation and storage of medications.  Before you start to transport different types of medicines, you need to study the characteristics of each drug.  Before transporting pharmaceuticals, it is necessary to sanitize the body of the car.  It is necessary to take into account all the nuances.  For example, medicinal dry raw materials of vegetable origin can absorb odors and quickly succumb to the negative effects of micro bacteria. In order to prevent such negative situations, you must perform cleaning body of the car and its disinfectionand then ventilate it before proceeding with the transportation of pharmaceuticals.

Many medical goods need to be properly packaged, as well as put special labeling (protect from moisture, do not roll, fragile, etc.).  The marking of medical goods will speed up the process of loading and unloading, and will also facilitate the acceptance of goods.  For medical consignments, especially brittle medications (for example, in vials, ampoules, etc.), a special container is used, due to which it is possible to avoid external damage and deliver the medications without problems.  In most cases, corrugated cardboard or air-bubble film is used for this purpose, since this container is the best option for the transportation of fragile drugs. In case that damage is seen on the consumer packaging of pharmaceuticals, a refrigerator is needed to transport such medications, in which there is a special quarantine zone, which is isolated in the body of the car by a special compartment separated from other medicines. Such damaged medications must be marked by special signs. Dangerous goods must be marked with the sign “dangerous cargo” (for example, drugs that have immunobiological, psychotropic and potent properties, etc.) and transported in a sealed refrigerator under the supervision of the responsible person.
